FOR SMALL & MID-SIZE IMPORTERS
Run trade compliance like you have a whole team, because now you basically do.
You do not have an in-house compliance desk. You have one person wearing six hats, and that person is already drowning. GingerControl gives small teams the same depth of research the big players use, without the big-player headcount.
The starting point
Small importers often carry the same compliance risk as enterprise importers, but with a fraction of the resources. One misclassification can eat a quarter. GingerControl closes that gap by giving small teams a professional-grade research engine, a sourcing matrix, a policy watch, and a senior advisor on call, so you are not betting the business on a Google search.
What you get
Built around how your team actually works.
Enterprise-grade research
The same GRI-based reasoning engine the big brokers use, with the full reasoning chain attached, priced for a small team.
Plain English, not customs jargon
Answers come with explanations you can actually read, not just a code and a footnote.
A full toolkit, not just a classifier
Compare source countries in Parts Library, watch for policy changes with Compliance Radar, and book a discovery call when you want a senior set of eyes. One stack, no research librarian required.
A SIMPLE WORKFLOW
Describe the product, get the answer, move on.
You are not running a compliance program, you are running a business. Ginger stays out of the way: paste in a product description, get the HTS code, the duty, and a reason you can trust.
ROOM TO GROW
Start with a classification, scale into the rest when you need it.
When sourcing gets complicated, Parts Library compares your SKUs across countries and quantifies FTA savings. When policy moves, Compliance Radar (private beta) tells you which of your products are hit. When the stakes are high, a Trade Advisory discovery call sets up a defensible program from day one. You bring the product knowledge, Ginger brings the depth.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is there an affordable HTS classification tool for a small importer?
Yes. GingerControl offers self-serve credit packs starting at $10 for 10 classifications, so you pay per product instead of signing an enterprise contract. If you import a modest catalog and have no compliance desk, you get the same GRI-based reasoning engine the larger teams use, with a plain-English explanation and cited rulings on every answer. We are software, not your broker, so you still file entries the way you do today, we just make the classification defensible.
Do I qualify for duty drawback as a small importer?
You may qualify if you import goods and later export them, or use them to make something you export, regardless of your size. There is no volume floor to be eligible, though very small refund amounts can cost more to file than they return. GingerControl estimates your recoverable duty up front so you can see if it is worth pursuing, then a specialist drawback partner executes the filing. We do not guarantee a recovery amount or CBP acceptance, we help you decide before you commit.
How do I handle tariffs as a small business without a trade team?
Start by getting the right HTS code and the full landed cost before you order, because most tariff pain traces back to a wrong code or an unbudgeted duty stack. GingerControl gives a one-person compliance operation professional-grade research on demand: describe the product, get the code, the duty, and the reasoning. Our Trade Policy Digest email is free, so you also see policy changes coming. We build the tooling, we do not act as your customs broker or importer of record.
Is my customs broker overcharging me?
You cannot know until you check the freight invoices and duty payments against what was actually owed, and most small importers never audit either. GingerControl offers a Freight Audit to flag likely invoice errors and PO Reconciliation to match what you ordered against what you were billed and what cleared. As an attributed industry estimate, roughly 5 to 10 percent of freight and parcel invoices carry some kind of error. We surface the discrepancies, then you take them up with your broker or carrier.
How do I recover overpaid tariffs without a big trade team?
Overpaid duty is usually recovered through duty drawback or, for 2025 IEEPA duties after the 2026 Supreme Court ruling, an IEEPA refund, and neither needs in-house headcount. GingerControl estimates your drawback and a partner files it, and for IEEPA we file the full refund package ourselves. If a wrong classification caused the overpayment, our HTS research gives you an audit-ready basis to correct it. We never promise a specific refund or that CBP will accept it, we estimate and file.
Do I need to become a customs expert to import correctly?
No, you need the right answer per product, not a mastery of the tariff schedule. A small importer's real risk is that one misclassification quietly repeats across every shipment of a SKU. GingerControl brings the GRI reasoning and the cited rulings so you bring only your product knowledge, and the answer comes with an explanation you can actually read. We keep a human in the loop by design and stay out of the broker's lane, so you decide, we do the research.
